I used ot be able to get the board to show (in ideaj) by right clicking the background and choosing run.
that option is no longer available.
is anyone able to help please?

You can only right click and run on code that has a valid main method. Somewhere hidden in the Game class there is a valid method for this, so with the "Games" your class has to inherit game class to be able to be run. In the window on the left of the screen, the project outline, where the class has a little green "run" triangle, those are the valid classes where the option will be available (see pic):

I had the same problem ages ago when I was first learning Java. I was scratching my head because sometimes it was there and sometimes it was not. Took me a day or two to figure this out on my own.
