Cant put periods, compiler issues. Help?

In the main method, create a Man object and save a reference to it in the variable man.
Also, create a Woman object and save a reference to it in the variable woman.

Hint: Use the following construct to create a Woman object and assign a reference to that object to the variable woman:
VariableType variableName = new TypeOfObjectBeingCreated();
Save a reference to the previously created Woman object in man.wife.
Save a reference to the previously created Man object in woman.husband (Hint: woman.husband = man).

Requirements:

In the main method, create a Man object and save a reference to it in the variable man.
In the main method, create a Woman object and save a reference to it in the variable woman.
In the main method, store a reference to the previously created Woman object in man.wife.
In the main method, store a reference to the previously created Man object in woman.husband.
The Man class must have 3 variables.
The Woman class must have 3 variables.

once you have defined the man and woman objects you can use the period on the object names themselves, like man.wife and woman.husband, there is no need to use the class names again for those objects

Woman man.wife=new Woman(); Man woman.husband=new Man(); The compiler tells me to put a semicolon in place of the period.

first you need to declare both objects then assign man.wife = woman; and woman.husband = man; in separate lines.

you should first declare the objects, Man man = new Man(); after that you can assign values to the objects, man.wife = woman; // woman object has to be declared first before using

I did declare the objects Man man=new Man(); Woman woman=new Woman(); Woman man.wife=new Woman(); Man woman.husband=new Man(); It still asks for the period to be replaced with a semicolon. The code on the top is my attempt.
