can someone give me a hint here i believe this is working but not to the exact perameters

Where is step 1, 2, and 3 done in this code? The way the shared code above works is that it accepts numbers from the user until a number less than or equal to 0 is entered, then outputs the maximum. This is not what the directions say. You need to ensure each step is followed properly because they later ones require the earlier ones to be completed properly: step 1: "reads a number N (must be greater than 0) from the console" The user must enter a number greater than 0. If not then do not proceed to step 2 step 2: "reads N numbers from the console" As long as the user enters a number greater than 0 for step 1, this step requires the code to read that many numbers from the user. So if the user had entered 5 for step 1 then this step would require the code to read 5 numbers. if the User entered 100 for step 1 then the code should read 100 numbers. etc step 3: Displays the maximum of the N entered numbers. of the numbers entered for step 2, output the max. So if the user had entered 5 for step 1, then entered 5 numbers for step 2 such as -4, 3, 0, -2, -5. Then this step would require the maximum of those 5 numbers, which would be 3.
