Help the cat get a name using the setName method

try using the name property instead. Don't use the setName method.

if you made a constructor such as : public class Cat { String name; int age; public Cat(String name, int age) { this.name = name; this.age = age; } That would work. However, private void setName(String name) is not a constructor, its just a method with String name being in the paramater. Try : this.name = name; instead of the above. this. refers within the method instead of the global variable String name = "nameless cat"; I think this is how it works anways...

You have entered Cat.name = name; Change Cat with this and try.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the static modifier is necessary for this task as not all cats share the same name.
