No. It should be While(count < n) Also, setting maximum to 0 is bad. If the user enters all negative numbers your code will display 0 instead of the maximum of the user input. Set maximum to Integer.MIN_VALUE. You will need another variable inside the loop for the user input, then check if that is greater than the current maximum. If it is then set maximum to that user input. Get rid of the break in the loop. Also, hit reply under my comments. It doesnt notify me if you just start a new comment. Finally, it has worked, though I don't still get where the error was. This is what I did : int n = Integer.parseInt(reader.readLine()); int maximum =Integer.MIN_VALUE; Instead of: int maximum =Integer.MIN_VALUE; int n = Integer.parseInt(reader.readLine()); And placed count++ exactly after the while(n> count) as in: while (n > count){ count ++; So what I still don't know is where the issue really was

What was going on:

while (n > count){
   int n2 = Integer.parseInt(reader.readLine());
   if (n2>maximum){
      maximum = n2;
      count ++; // this line
   }
}

The loop should only run N number of times, but Line 5 only increased the loop count if the entered number was greater than the maximum. So if the the number entered for N was 5, this means that 5 numbers should be entered and the maximum of those 5 should display. In those 5 numbers the first number will set maximum, and count would increase by 1. If the second number was less than the first then count would not increase and you would have 6 loop cycles now instead of 5. And if the next number was not greater than maximum you would have 7 loop cycles. This would continue until 5 numbers are entered that all are the maximum at that time. If you entered the maximum that an integer could be, your loop would become infinite. So you ended up fixing it yourself by moving that count++ line outside of the if statement so it increased count every loop cycle and limited the amount of loops to only N.
