LAST Condition not verifying. What is that condition can Anyone explain?

Write code to correctly count the number of cats created (count) and display the correct number of cats on the screen.

Requirements:

The program should display text on the screen.
Don't change the line responsible for screen output.
The Cat class must have only one count variable.
The Cat class's variable count must be a static int, have a public access modifier, and be initialized to zero.
The main method should have only two initialized Cat variables.
The variable count must store the actual number of cat objects created.

Interesting, what you wrote in your post, the contruct you made es. cat1.count++, I have seen it in a explanation. I also reached the risultvin different manner: cat1.count = Cat.count + 1; and under the second object cat2.count = Cat.count + 1; it works.

Actually I only added the constructor and the output was 2, but still wrong due to multiple variables under the cat class.

static properties of classes are shared for every object. cat1.count = cat2.count = cat3.count..... etc etc etc always. You added a constructor that increases count as well. So stepping through your code:

public class Solution {
    public static void main(String[] args) {

        Cat cat1 = new Cat(); // constructor adds 1 to count. count now = 1
        cat1.count++; // adds 1 to count. count now = 2

        Cat cat2 = new Cat(); // constructor adds 1 to count. count now = 3

        cat2.count++;  // adds 1 to count. count now = 4
       Cat.count=cat1.count+cat2.count; // count = count + count
        //         ↑ 4       +  ↑4       count now equals 8
        System.out.println("The cat count is " + Cat.count);
        // ↑ outputs "The cat count is 8"
    }

    public static class Cat {
        public static int count = 0; // this is shared for every single cat object
          Cat()
          {
              count++;
          }
    }
}

So the correct output should be "The cat count is 2". Fix your code accordingly.

Helpful info ... What / Why is Cat( ) { constructed in Cat class ?? unsure how the whole puzzle works ...

@Thomas here is an article about constructors: https://beginnersbook.com/2013/03/constructors-in-java/ You don't need to read all of that, but it may answer your questions. I would recommend to keep moving forward because a lot of these concepts will be brought up in the lessons and the tasks will start giving you a lot of practice with them.

The thing I don't really understand is that CodeGym keeps making us "practice" concepts that we haven't even covered in lessons. which makes us practically have to "cheat" from the help section with help from higher level users... Or is it only me? Should I have been able to do this question without your comment?

@Romeo Its not cheating if you try to figure it out first then look for guidance. Also, all through the levels I had a window of google up for EVERYTHING. I copied and pasted code that I found from many different sites, then modified it to work with the task. Is that any different then seeing what answers are in the help section?

I guess its not cheating as long as you're not cheating your learning process. As a level 31 are you satisfied with what you've learned using CodeGym? I Genuinely want to hear your opinion since you have a great amount of experience.

I have learned a TON and still do, though most of my learning is in the help sections. All the other users have found so many different ways to do things that I would never think of myself, and I have learned a lot about avoiding pitfalls that other users have found by mistake. If you stay on this website you will see a lot of my answers in the help section, and 90% of the programming I know now is because of my time here. You can decide if I sound knowledgeable or not.

Be prepared to be so frustrated that you will want to throw your monitor against the wall on some tasks. I actually enjoy programming a lot, especially really complicated logical problems, but it is not an easy thing to learn. Don't be afraid to use google, starting in the multithreading quest Codegym even has a page of about 20 things to google for each level. If you do get stuck, don't be afraid to ask a question and continue moving forward. Someone will get to it that question and sometimes a fresh set of eyes can point out errors you may have blind to. Codegym also does a good job keeping the tasks challenging as you go along. Even now I can fail a task 20 times before passing it, usually for very obvious problems that I just don't see. At my level there are tasks where the code is split into multiple files (some as large as 15 plus) with hundreds of lines of code each.
