Don't know if my solution is better, but i will try to describe actions i did to resolve this. 1)Googling what object shoud i use. I choose to use LocalDate object (because here we don't need Time). 2) i look at JavaDoc, and found something interesting: method parse (need a string and a DateTimeFormatter) 3) Play around with DateTimeFormatter, found the pattern to use for the method ofPattern("MMMM d YYYY") 4) But it didnt work with the given String "MAY 1 2013" 5) Cry several times and told to myself that i will never found this solution and be a programmer 6) Tryed a last time with a String like "May 1 2013" . BOUM it work ! 7) downcase the given string 8) String`s first char uppcase 9) use LocalDate.parse 10) use the very usefull method getDayOfYear from my LocalDate object 11) Return odd true false blablablabla, i'm done! I realize that i don't answer to your question, but is there a question ? Don't ask solutions to friends, try to find your own, then discuss and pimp your function.

I did it with the help of a friend but how to parse dateformat by using calender objects.
