forget the line < private String name = "nameless cat"; > ...come to the last class < public static void main(String[] args) { Cat cat = new Cat(); cat.setName("Simba"); System.out.println(cat.name); > they do the operation (assign the name simba to the cat ) and store the value in the variable name name in the second class (String name ) you cannot access directly that variable so u need to use this this.variable_name = variable_name now u need to print the line so

System.out.println(cat.name);

In the setName method you always set the value of the private String variable name equal "Simba", but you should set the value of the private String variable name equal to the passed String argument name.

simply write this in setName method:

this.name = name;

this.name calls the static name variable and the passed argument variable is now assigned to this .name
