I did:
for (i = 1; i < 10; i++)
and
for (j = 1; j < 12; j++)
in my code and I wonder why it works, with 10 and 12...

I can't see your complete code but i pretty much guess, because the first for loop iterate 9 times from 1 - 9 and the second for loop iterate 11 times from 1 to 11. Therefore you get 2 lines with 10 characters.
