To create a variable in java you need to follow the template: [Variable Type] [Variable name] = [Initialization] You are able to split this into two steps by separating the initialization from the rest: [Variable Type] [Variable name] = [Initialization] /* any number of lines of code */ [Variable name] = [Initialization] Some examples: 1)

Object ex = new Object();

type - Object variable name - ex initialization - new Object() 2)

StringBuilder numbers = new StringBuilder();

type - StringBuilder variable name - numbers initialization - new StringBuilder() 3)

ByteArrayInputStream in = new ByteArrayInputStream("some String".getBytes());

type - ByteArrayInputStream variable name - in initialization - new ByteArrayInputStream("some String".getBytes()) 4)

int[] temp;
// some line of code

temp = new int[5];

type - int[] variable name - temp initialization - new int[5] All of those examples follow the pattern even though each object is different. In your code take a look at line 13 and compare it to the pattern.
