The problem is that there are too many new line characters at the end of your output. This is because each line that you append you also append a new line character, then at the end you use a println() method which also adds a new line at the end. I recommend changing the println() method on line 24 to just print(). Alternatively you can skip the whole Scanner and use the FileInputStream directly read all the bytes to a buffer, convert to a string, then output that String with the println(). As a programmer you will have to decide how you want to solve each problem in a way that makes sense to you (and is clean code). This method may be better, however you may prefer a Scanner or a BufferedReader, it isn't more right/wrong whichever you choose.

Without really knowing what's up with the validator here I'd suspect the scanner to be the culprit. The validator is sent your code, then on codegym server that code 's executed and the result is checked (just my understanding of it, don't know if it is done rally that way) and the code itself is checked, too for certain keywords etc. So when the code is run it is fed with some data codegym has prepared. If the techie used eg. a Mac to prepare that data in a text editor, then the line separator used is just a CR, on nix it's a LF and on win a CRLF. The scanner reads an entire line and removes the line separator. Then you add it back with \n without knowing, if that's really a LF (and maybe not a CR). If the validator is comparing your result with the input, then it may fail cause input is eg text\rmore text and the output may read like text\nmore text

I'm also having trouble with the verification system. I have no idea why the solution is so complicated with the StringBuilder I think the following code is just fine: while(scanner.hasNextLine()) { String content = scanner.nextLine(); System.out.println(content); }
