"Hello, Amigo! Here's a good video. I've already been patiently resisting the urge to watch it for two hours. Hurry along now."

Nerd Break
Resting is useful! And resting in a useful way is even more useful. It's time to relax a bit, watch a cool video... and get a bunch of dark matter for it! Videos about technology and famous nerds are an excellent substitute for TV shows. This time it's about Steve from Apple. But not the Steve that first comes to mind.
You write "But not the Steve that first comes to mind," yet Woz was the first Steve that came to mind for me. As far as I'm concerned, without Woz, there would be no Apple, since he was the bigger genius of the two. As far as I know, Jobs very rarely, if ever, actually coded. Woz was, is, and always will be a god.
I'm not sure why you claim that, since Wozniak was already very talented before he met Steve Jobs. He was far from mediocre. Even before he met Jobs, he already was designing and building his own computers and was known as a legendary hacker. All Jobs did was add aesthetic value to his creations, which led Apple to great success. He didn't have the technical skills that Woz had, so I think Woz would have been just fine even without Jobs.
Most talented technical guys end up as a mediocre guy in a company. I'm pretty sure that without Woz there was for sure an Apple company, and a successful one too. Without Jobs and his vision, there would be no Apple. I understand the love for the `tech nerd` but this is not how business works.
Maybe, maybe not. All I know is that Woz was the one who designed all the computers, so without him, Jobs wouldn't have anything to market. Let's just say that they each needed each other. Jobs needed Woz for the technical side and Woz needed Jobs for the marketing side. They each were geniuses in their own way and combined they changed the landscape of computing forever.
Technical people are easy to find. A Visionaire like Steve Jobs is unique. Technical people are not unique, for example, Java developers, the whole process in hiring developers is to find a dev that is 'not' creative and will just do the job, nothing more and nothing less, there is nothing unique about a developer.
These days, yes, but back then people such as Woz WERE unique. Computers were not nearly as readily available as they are now and there were far fewer programming languages. In addition, there wasn't a wealth of educational resources, such as today. The only way anyone could learn was either by reverse engineering computers or getting their hands on the technical documentation and deciphering it themselves. The Internet existed, but the idea of a World Wide Web was still a pipe dream, so obviously there was nothing remotely close to a CodeGym or any other programming training website similar to it. In short, anyone who knew how to hack or build a computer in that era was highly regarded. I'm unsure about why you're so adamant about disparaging Wozniak and his accomplishments. Anyway, I'm finished here. This has become pointless.
I disagree, in those old days (and I remember them) you had massive technical manuals, walls full. You are finished because your arguments are void and shallow.
it's funny that you would argue over history that has been already established, and there are no what ifs at this point except for speculations. Both of you could be wrong and right and we would never know, but we know one thing for certain, both contributed to apple and there is nothing you can do to change that fact.
Woz was happy to build something he wanted to use himself and then give it away for free. He just simply loved engineering and to be able do what he loved so much he stepped down from his high-paying top position at Apple. He wanted to work on products with Apple engineers, rather than sitting on meetings with other managers. Without Jobs he would have stayed with HP forever. It was Jobs who realized that people would actually pay for an out-of-the-box computer. Jobs also had the skill to be able to talk to human beings. Most geeks/nerds don't have that skill :) Good managers are as important as good engineers. They can't succeed without each other.
Talent alone is not sufficient. It takes a visionary like Jobs to make Apple into what it is now, Wozniak could never have achieved what Jobs did.
Geniuses are rare, but visionaries that are intelligent and ballsy enough to attempt to realize their visions are rarer still.
