in the quiz it asked what the expression 5%2 was, and rephrased it as 5/2, i had no idea what that was and didn't see it talked about. any ideas?

This is called modulus division. In case of 5%2 the answer will be 1, since there are two number 2's that could fit in the number 5, so whatever is left is the answer to the equation in the modulus division. In our case 5 - 4 (2*2) = 1.
