getAllowedAction

Why does getAllowedAction have to return null in order to compile? In theory could it not return something else like a word or sentence and still be OK?

Works for me as expected...

public class Solution {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        System.out.println(new Clothes().getAllowedAction("Shirt"));
    }

    public interface Sellable {
        Object getAllowedAction(String name);
    }

    public static class Clothes implements Sellable {
        @Override
        public Object getAllowedAction(String name) {
            return name + " is sellable!"; //String name -> upcasting to Object
        }
    }
}
