Hi there, welcome to our monthly issue with the selection of the most important news and great content pieces about programming. We hope you’ll enjoy it!

The Major News in Big Tech in June:

This month, once again, was all about AI and its impact on global businesses. Many professionals have already adopted ChatGPT in their routine work, but it may be too soon to go all in on AI?..
  • Google urges its employees to exercise caution with AI chatbots, including Bard. The company warns not to submit confidential information into its own AI software, and those concerns are reasonable.
  • Apart from security concerns, there’s also a teeny tiny risk to blow your professional image as a result of trusting AI (in its current state) too much. For instance, the lawyers in New York were fined $5000 for citing fake cases made up by ChatGPT. Therefore, be sure to check your sources, even if it is an almighty AI.
Other news in the spotlight in June is about Reddit and more than 7,000 subreddits going dark as a protest to Reddit’s API changes in pricing, including the subreddits with millions of subscribers. While some subreddit owners decided to negotiate the conditions via an open letter, some Reddit hackers demand the reversal of API changes and a $4.5 million ransom in exchange for user data stolen in February.

Developer’s Career:

  • In Better Programming at Medium, a Principal Software Engineer at Microsoft shared his observations about modern software engineering. Part one is dedicated to system design. Part two is about testing.
  • Meanwhile, a Cloud Architect from Accenture shared his thought on a probable shift from microservices back to monolith architecture in a post Are We Going Back to The Monolith?
  • Last but not least, here’s a great post on how to give a code review as a Junior developer. What’s expected from a newbie programmer in this case? What should you pay attention to?
