I reviewed my lessons on declaring String variables, yet I cannot understand why I am unable to declare String variables in my "if" statements. Thanks so much for your help!

Use the keyboard to enter an integer. Display a string description as follows:
"Negative even number" - if the number is negative and even,
"Negative odd number" - if the number is negative and odd,
"Zero" - if the number is 0,
"Positive even number" - if the number is positive and even,
"Positive odd number" - if the number is positive and odd.

Example for 100:
Positive even number

Example for -51:
Negative odd number

Requirements:

The program should read a number from the keyboard.
The program should use System.out.println() or System.out.print().
If the number is negative and even, display "Negative even number".
If the number is negative and odd, display "Negative odd number".
If the number is 0, display "Zero".
If the number is positive and even, display "Positive even number".
If the number is positive and odd, display "Positive odd number".

Variables are only available to the block of code that they are declared in and not any block of code outside of that. It is important to read that statement correctly: "not any block of code outside of that". Blocks of code that are within the block of code that the variable is declared in can access it. In Java, proper indentation of your code (which you did very well, good job!!) really helps you keep track of blocks of code, as each indentation signifies a new block of code. Just remember, indentation is not required at all, it is simply to help with the readability of code. If you chose not to indent the code that would not change where a new block of code starts/ends. Don't chose not to indent though. so Each of these lines: 16, 19, 22, 25 - are indented. This signifies that they are all in a new block of code. Because you can only access variables that are in the block of code they are declared in, line 30 can not access them because it is in the block of code outside the code where those lines are declared.

When you fix your variable errors, there is still a logical error in the code. Because line 30 prints every single time the program is run, if the user enters 0 then both lines 28 and 30 will print. This is going to produce the incorrect output and fail the validation. You will need to fix this error as well.

Maybe it will help you If you want to declare Strings you have to do it above "ifs" and add them values. Somethings is wrong with requirements "ifs" but i don't have any time now, I will see it later :)
