I don't know where to go from here or if I am even on the right track.

Enter the number and name from the keyboard. Display the following string:
<name> will take over the world in <number> years. Mwa-ha-ha!

Here's an example:
Kevin will take over the world in 8 years. Mwa-ha-ha!

The order in which the data is input matters a lot.

Requirements:

The program should output text.
The program must read data from the keyboard.
The displayed text must contain the entered name.
The displayed text must contain the entered number.
The displayed text must fully match the task conditions.

"Enter the number and name" - so first number then name. String number = sc.nextLine(); String name = sc.nextLine();

I made the same mistake. First declare the number then the name. I used two String types, no need for int.

from the requirements: "Enter the number and name" You program has the inputs backwards. Also, with the scanner class, when you use the nextInt() method followed by the nextLine() method, your program will not read the second value. You can solve this by adding a sing nextLine() in between the two reads, or by only using nextLine() and then converting to an int using Integer.parseInt(). reader.nextLine();
String name = reader.nextLine();

int age = Integer.parseInt(reader.readLine());
