Task No. 4 about integer type conversions

Add one type conversion to get the following answer: nine = 9
short number = 9;
char zero = '0';
int nine = (zero + number);

Requirements:

The program should display text on the screen.
Don't change the screen output command. You can only add cast operators to it.
The main() method must contain a short variable number.
The main() method must contain a char variable zero.
The main() method must contain an int variable nine.
Don't change the initial value of the variables during initialization. You can only add cast operators.
The program should display the number 9.

there zero gives you the ASCII value of that but which will be 48 in that case so you may get 57 as answer..so that you have to get a specific integer residing in the char ... !!

You can use print statements after every expression to see what the expression are evaluating to after every step and then make modifications and proceed accordingly. (Don't forget to remove test print statements at the end)

that is not helping.....!! it is taking its Ascii value while adding ... so what would i do ?

zero stores char '0' and number stores int 9 so it might be (char) 9 and then (char)(zero + number) but it not converting it showing 57 can you help me to understand this..please

int nine = (zero + number);

In above line, zero gets converted to ascii value that it 48 and added to 9. 57 gets stored in "nine". Now if you check ascii table, 57 represent 9. Hence, if you cast 57(variable nine) to char, it will display 9. Cast nine to char inside println.
