Hey anybody have any suggestions? Is my logic off or my syntax? I am stumped.

Use the keyboard to enter an integer. Display a string description as follows:
"Negative even number" - if the number is negative and even,
"Negative odd number" - if the number is negative and odd,
"Zero" - if the number is 0,
"Positive even number" - if the number is positive and even,
"Positive odd number" - if the number is positive and odd.

Example for 100:
Positive even number

Example for -51:
Negative odd number

Requirements:

The program should read a number from the keyboard.
The program should use System.out.println() or System.out.print().
If the number is negative and even, display "Negative even number".
If the number is negative and odd, display "Negative odd number".
If the number is 0, display "Zero".
If the number is positive and even, display "Positive even number".
If the number is positive and odd, display "Positive odd number".

Thank you for all your help. I am so close on it I can taste it. I think I corrected most of it but I am still figuring this all out. I made changes, Now I am getting an error 'not a statement' on else (num % 2 != 0) aa = d; and it is not meeting the If the number is 0, display "Zero" criteria..... I didn't want to just copy paste a solution I wanted to create it in an original way I hadn't seen on any of the other solutions.

if you only have an "else" you dont need brackets with a condition, else gets executed if the "if" statement doesnt pass. if (num == 0); System.out.println(f); should be enough for it to pass, maybe post your whole code, maybe something else doesnt let it get to that point.

Hope Im not too late since i havent checked all weekend, but in your code you'd have to follow with an else after the first if. Otherwise you would print out the last statement. And like already said, your last else doesnt require a condition, if you need the condition you need an if.

Like already said, line 27 and 31 are missing a condition after the if. aa and bb never get anything assigned to, so they always print null. You probably wanted to assign bb = a on line 30. In line 41 you also print f at the end, which doesnt make any sense because f always stays Zero.

first off, line 27, you've written else if without any condition. also, when you write a ==bb; etc, you're assigning the value of bb (nulll) to a. you should be doing the opposite. on line 41, you wrote f when it should be e
