Hi Bryce! For the sake of using a method within a method, have you thought what min(min(a,b), min(c, d)) would return? ;)

moreover actually this is how to call the method in another method in your public static int min(int a, int b, int c, int d) method ... you call the min(int a, int b) as a formula in the min(int a, int b, int c, int d) try this tip a = min(a, c); a = min(a, d); a = min(a, b); return a; just like the variable a above you can use b as well if you applied my previous tip for your min(int a, int b) method

you misusing {}... try this tip { int answer1; if (a < b) answer1 = a; else answer! = b; return answer1; }

Thanks again for the help. I just installed NetBeans thru a recommendation from a book I am reading. But I will check out intelliJ!

Thanks a ton. After cleaning up the code I also had to change line ten from this.min(a,b); to min(a,b); This was a difficult task.

I saw that and forgot to write it down, my bad. A couple syntax errors are to be expected, even high level programmers make these mistakes. A good IDE will help you a lot with those, like intelliJ. If it hasn't yet, the course will be instructing you to download that soon. You should be doing all your coding from that point forward in intelliJ, and after initial frustration of getting used to it, you will love the IDE.

#1 You have an extra curly boy at line 38, remove this. #2 in your min(int,int) method you declare answer1 on line 30, but dont use it (you use answer). Change this to just answer. #3 in the min (int,int,int,int) method your last else if statement at line 25 should just be else. Remove the if. It looks like your code should work properly after this. I'm going to message you a cleaner solve.

You could have save typing by using the min method from the Math library and would have avoided the confusion. public static int min(int a, int b, int c, int d) { int newMinNumberAB; int newMinNumberCD; int newMinNumberAB = Math.min(a,b); // find first minimum int newMinNumberCD; = Math.min(c,d); // find second minimum // return the minimum of the last two minimum return Math.min(newMinNumberAB, newMinNumberCD); }

@uber You need to read the task requirements. The requirements specifically state: "The min(a, b, c, d) method must use the min(a, b) method.". Your code would not pass verification.

My bad. some how i passed the task anyway. The correct solution: public class Solution { public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception { System.out.println(min(-20, -10)); System.out.println(min(-20, -10, -30, -40)); System.out.println(min(-20, -10, -30, 40)); System.out.println(min(-40, -10, -30, 40)); } public static int min(int a, int b, int c, int d) { int min1 = min(a,b); int min2 = min(c,d); return min(min1,min2); } public static int min(int a, int b) { a < b : a ? b; if (a < b) return a; else return b; } } or a more elegent way to implement Min(int a, int b) is to use: min = (a < b) ? a : b;

you could use the Math.min(a,b) in the min(a,b) method. This is my elegant way of solving (not the first way i solved it, back at level 3):

public static int min(int a, int b, int c, int d) {
   return min(min(a,b), min(c,d));
}

public static int min(int a, int b) {
   return Math.min(a,b);
}
