9.1 Learning Schedule

Let me tell you a bit about how the training will be organized.

Every week you'll have two webinars, each about 2 hours long. During these webinars, your mentor will explain new technologies, show you how to work with them, and go over everything in practice.

Webinars will be held on Zoom. You can also ask your mentor questions during the webinar there. Or listen to your mentor's answers to other students' questions. That can be super helpful too.

After each webinar, we'll send you its recording. So don't worry if you accidentally miss a class or if it's scheduled at an inconvenient time for you.

Additionally, we'll group you into teams. Each group of students learning together will have its own channel in a messenger. You can chat, ask questions, handle organizational stuff, and more. Each group will have a curator who will try to solve any problems while the mentor is unavailable.

On our website, you'll have access to lectures, tasks, and quizzes. Anytime 24/7, you can log in to the site and practice solving tasks, reread lectures, or take a couple of tests. There's also a great "Help" section where you can ask any question about a task and get an answer from our huge community.

From time to time, your mentor will give you group or individual projects. They will have deadlines. Of course, you can submit a project after the deadline, but it will be a bit challenging since the mentor will start covering new topics and you'll need to keep up with them too. So, don't skip practice without a reason.

9.2 Technical Tools

Like true programmers, you'll be writing code in an IDE—a special program for writing programs. For Python, there are several popular IDEs. We'll be using PyCharm by JetBrains. It has two versions: a paid and a free one. The free version will be sufficient for your learning needs.

You can work on any operating system: Windows, MacOS, or Linux. All tools we'll be using during the training have versions for each of these operating systems. For example, you'll learn to work with Docker, Git, or SQL—each of these tools has a version for every OS.

To participate in the webinars, you'll need Zoom. You can use its web version, but it's better to install the desktop client. It'll be easier for both you and us. Getting the hang of Zoom is super easy, and if you haven't used it yet, you'll pick it up quickly.

You can chat with your group, mentor, and curator in 3 places. First, there's the Zoom chat during the webinar. Second, there's the community in a messenger where you can ask any questions 24/7 and chat with your peers. Finally, there's a large community on the CodeGym website—ask any questions about tasks there.

9.3 Our Platform – Our Pride

The CodeGym website is a unique learning platform. You'll find everything you need there.

First, there's theory: lectures available 24/7 that concisely but with examples explain all the topics covered in the webinars. Unlike webinars, you can always read ahead in the lectures about a topic the mentor hasn't covered yet. Sometimes that's really useful.

Second, there's practice: on the site, you'll have access to more than 1000 tasks tied to the lectures, so you can easily practice the material you've learned. If the material doesn't involve practical tasks, there'll be tests waiting for you. Also very useful to check your knowledge level.

Third, there's the Help section. I'm mentioning it for the third time because it’s really a work of art. Everything is very well organized there, and you can ask a question about your task in seconds: your code, the task condition, and its requirements will be added to your question automatically. Plus, you can improve your skills by answering other students' questions.

Fourth, there's our plugin adapted for working in PyCharm. The plugin allows you to receive tasks and submit them for review directly from the IDE. Quick and convenient.

And fifth, but not least—our community. This year, CodeGym turns 12, and over the years, a large and friendly community has gathered on the site. People share their success stories, support each other, and help peers. Join in, you definitely won’t be left out here.
