1. Harvard's CS50 Course

At Harvard, there’s a pretty cool course on programming basics — Computer Science 50, or just CS50. Well, “pretty cool” might be an understatement: it’d be more honest to say — the most popular programming course in the world!

It’s seriously one of the most well-known, popular, and top-tier courses on programming basics in the world. Its creator, Professor David Malan, is recognized as one of the most iconic educators in this field. Every year, David Malan teaches programming basics for beginners. Videos of this course are uploaded on YouTube, and the text materials and lectures can be found on Harvard's official site.

This course is all about the fundamentals of programming. Over 11 two-hour lectures, you’ll dive into different programming applications: from web development and PHP to C++ and Python. It’s more like an introduction. So you can decide if programming excites you or not before you really dive into learning it.

At CodeGym, we think this course is super helpful, so we highly recommend checking it out for inspiration. Watch, learn, and enjoy.

2. CodeGym Community

If you haven’t joined our CodeGym Community yet, now’s the perfect time. There, you’ll find friends, interesting facts, and success stories of folks who are farther along in their learning journey. It’s important to learn from your experienced peers while they’re still in the process. Join us!

3. First Level Recap

Congrats! You’ve completed your very first level on CodeGym. Just one level down, and you’ve already learned so much important, cool stuff. Awesome work!

Today you learned:

  • How an HTML document is structured;
  • What tags are;
  • The different types of tags;
  • Got introduced to attributes;
  • Learned how to add images and links to HTML;
  • Got hands-on practice with WebIDE.

That’s great! Of course, the next levels won’t be as easy as this one, but the difficulty will increase gradually. Just like the complexity of the practical tasks.

Kind of like going to the gym: slowly increasing the weight, and before you know it, a newbie is bench pressing 100 kilos after six months to a year.

Boring lessons are so last century. Imagine writing with chalk on a blackboard! Nothing’s changed since the 15th century. They probably still had dinosaurs walking around back then.

You’re moving on to the next level! Just 46 more to go. And then, it’s job-hunting time! ;)
